Safety at the expense of leaving your loved ones

Renad, the aspiring chef from Gaza has safely been deported to another country.

She said she misses her mom. Can you imagine being cherry picked to be brought to a safe place, as if your life is valued more than that of your own mother, father and other family members? You may have a shelter now with roof above your head and enough food to get you by, but in every waking moment, you are forced to wonder if your mother and father do because now you have to live with the guilt of leaving your family behind in the grip of genocide. Renad is one of the thousands of Gazans who have to go through this.

How can one be truly happy when you are trading comfort at the expense of your family's discomfort, leaving behind your loved ones whose hearts are already swollen by the situation and now become more swelled by the separation? While she is upgrading her life, the family continues to suffer, counting down days and moments where death and pain are more certain than life itself.

Oh Renad, I'm sorry the world has put you in a terribly difficult place. Missing your Mama is only to say the very least. That is just the tip of the iceberg when you're expected to be grateful and forced to smile in front of the camera. As much as we are trying to build a fortress around you, we know you are crumbling on the inside as would any grown man and woman. Here you are, just a child. A special child with a special strength. You are strong, so strong it is painful to witness your twinkling eyes battling between shedding the tears of gratefulness and sorrow. The pain invisible to the eyes is so mighty that we feel it physically.

May Allah give you peace and through you, your sacrifices, with your family's blessing, the world is overturned to be a place where children like you could soak in their childhood in the embrace of their loved ones and never having to worry and carry the burden any children could bare, let alone adults could shoulder. May you and your family be reunited in peace and safety and others, never having to go through what you went through, separated by the inconceivable injustice.
